RE: Five things.

5 is simply not enough.
Air Compressor
impact wrench, wratchet and sockets
maul
engineers hammer
taped/hidden 1/4" stubby wratchet 4" extension and 10mm deep well socket to replace CPS and spare cps (I know ford did the recall, but I still have it so I can do the high way quick change).

RE: Replacing A/C unit - can it be tipped?

If you know someone with a tractor with a front loader that would go high enough would work also.
Be sure you trust the person doing the driving of the tractor really well. We had an accident while lifting the trusses for our shop because the operator of the tractor tagged the wall with the bucket, if it had been a travel trailer or 5er they probably would have had the corner of the bucket inside the trailer.

RE: Hankook tires

We have run through a set of Hankook's on our minivan and are on the second set. They have worn well, and appear to be tough enough to handle our gravel road.

RE: Towing efficiency as a ratio of tow rating to actual load

Steve appears to have placed a formula to this that makes a bunch of sense. I would say that your effeciency would have to almost certainly increase.
That being said, I do belive that Tacoma and Frontiers capcities for towing might be grossly exagerated, and from experience they have been in previous years (in the 90's).

RE: LIMESTONE???????????????

That would be news to those of us in Kansas and Missouri, our gravel roads are covered with the stuff, and since I live on gravel, most of my cars are too. Must not be too bad because we run some trucks from the 70's and 80's on our farm and they are in better shape than some cars that are newer that I see on the roads.

RE: Tiger Run or Sugar Loafin

Sugar Loafin used to be a place that I looked forward to as a kid, but I have not stayed there as an adult (over 20 years have passed). There used to be some forest service campgrounds with paved roads on past Sugar Loafin, don't know thier status or anything else, also there was a forest service camp ground at what had once been Camp Hale.
The last time I was in the area was on business, and the forest service campgrounds looked abandoned, and I wondered why at the time.

RE: What portal are you using?

I have always used www.rv.net, and have infrequently had issues with "crashes".
The site is created with cold fusion, and cold fusion while cool back in the day was prone to certain issues related to server memory leaks. This may be not be the case here but certainly could be a contributing factor to your issues.

RE: Are dealers giving up on Class C's and A's?

The local dealer down the road from us might have lowered his inventory some, but you couldn't tell because the rigs are still the first thing on the lot, and there are still more of them than travel trailers or 5ers. But that might be a regional thing, around this part of the country we are not down in the dumps, lots of new construction, lots of new houses etc, just slowing down a little. Home values have slowed thier growth, but only 10% less than previous year. So market probably has something to do with it.

RE: Natchez Trace parkway

I have been from Natchez to Tuepelo a few times, most recently from Jackson to Tuepelo. It has great facilities, and a view into the pre columbian, pre civil war, and post reconstruction periods of history, and huge areas of information for general natural science. Quite the wonderful road.

RE: Road to Estes Park, CO

My goodness guys, I have tent camped and camped in a pop-up in September at Estes. Yes it can get cool, but its for sure not winter! And yes, I got snow when I was there, not to mention snow at Colorado Springs on 9/8/2001 which made a day at the air force acadamy magic for my kids.
As for the roads, they are great actually, some of the best front range roadways in my opinion. We have friends that lived on the north side of the hi-way near noahs ark, and went to visit several times before they moved away.

RE: Need some advice ( a little long)

We had three panels creased by a guy who was over the center line in Idaho 4 years ago, the trailer took 8 weeks to repair because the panels kept getting dented before they got to the dealer. The only ones which made it to the dealer without dents, had two dots of what looked to be black paint. We accepted them due to the fact that if we had not we would just loose more time camping. We accepted it, and have not looked back. One thing that we have noticed is that the replacement panels have never had the same coat of wax or something and they look as if they have chalking while the others still look shiny.

RE: Which one are you?

We have to work and the kids have to go to school, so we camp mostly summer and weekends, but we have camped during all 12 months. Our coldest camping in an RV was -20, our hottest was 103 with no shade, its 100 today where we are. We also camp in tents (me and the kids anyway, my wife likes a better bed and I don't blame her.)

RE: Black tank blocked (Help)!

Do you even get a trickle? I would snake from the outlet and use something like #9 wire, something stiff so that you could make a spiral or loop on the end that would grab whatever is hung up.
Also you have to use a stick to break that stuff up before you flush, because getting a stick up the sewer hose is very very hard.
Best of luck!

RE: bunk bed issue?

I built a ladder, then decided not to take it because it was too much in the way.
We also use the toddler bed rails until my daughter was about 8, they worked well, but when the 13 year old fell out of the bunk I don't know who was hurt worse, dad and mom trying to figure out what was going on, or our son.

RE: pop-up campers

Jayco, Fleetwood, Viking, Forest River
There are many others, I know around here that the Jayco's and Fleetwoods are sold near my home, Viking and Forest River a little further away. Fleetwoods are what used to be colemans, but there was some change in licensing or something so now they are Fleetwoods.

RE: Fleece Sleeping Bag for TT Kids' Bunks?

We've used regular sheets with fleece blankets. Works great during more mild times of the year. DS and I both used fleece sleeping bags during a 6 night scout tent camping trip last summer and I liked it for the mild (almost hot) weather we had.
We too have used them on Scout camp outs, they work well for us down to about 65.
We also have them for the kids in the travel trailer, and my 4 year old uses his almost exclusively. Our kids have a collection, and make thier beds pretty much themselves, so they choose what is best for them.
My wife and I have a double fleece sleeping bag which fits over a matress, and it works pretty well, but she says its not heavy enough to give her comfort.
Hope you do well.

RE: Diamond Plate

I have added diamond plate to the front of my trailer after it was about 2 years old.
Essentially I got a roll of diamondplate skin from the dealer I bought the trailer from, and a cross edge piece (for the life of me I cant remember what it was called) un-did the upright pieces, laid the diamondplate out and then put the piece across the top of it to secure it. There was cutting involved to clear the frame of the trailer, but I just covered the lower section of the front of the trailer, and did not remove the origional siding at that location.

RE: ULSD fuel's effect on your diesel engine

We have seen a very few instances where the reduced aromatic content of the fuel has resulted in slight leaks from fuel systems. This is not expected to be an issue with many engines.
-
This part of the reply I would say from experience is incorrect. I don't call the leak that I and so many other PSD owners have experienced around the fuel filter tower to be slight. The stuff was flowing out the drain line in a constant stream about the size of a lead pencil. It may have been slow earlier, but it resulted in the o-rings being hard as rocks, and a signifigant leak which I have washed the engine twice and still have a huge amount of residue from.
I would use stronger language to place the point home, but it would be inappropriate.
